Egg demand is increasing but the production is decreasing

The demand for eggs is increasing now. But it has become difficult to meet the demand due to lack of production as per the demand.

At present, 2.5 to 3 million eggs are produced daily and the demand is 3.5 to 4 million. According to the Nepal Egg Producers Association, the demand is also increasing due to the increase in egg consumption to increase the disease resistance during corona infection. However, egg production has declined due to Ranikhet and summer diseases.

According to Shivaram KC, president of the Nepal Egg Producers’ Association, the production has dropped by 15 percent from 3.5 to 4 million last year. The price has gone up due to non-production of eggs as per the demand. The price of eggs has also gone up as the price of grains given to chickens has gone up, said Pravin KC, general secretary of the association.

Farmers have not been able to take advantage of the rise in egg prices due to rising grain prices. Nepal is self-sufficient in poultry products.
